10-Time NFL Pro Bowler Tony Gonzalez to Appear in Cartoon Network's My Dad's A Pro
Expanding on their ongoing relationship, Cartoon Network and the NFL today announced that 10-time NFL Pro Bowler and Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez and his 8-year-old son Nikko will appear in the second season of the short-form series, My Dad's A Pro.
My Dad's A Pro had its successful first season run in 2009 and featured NBA Champion Boston Celtics guard Eddie House and his son Jaelen. The live-action series follows a professional athlete's son and his father, offering a unique perspective on what day-to-day life is like with a father in professional sports.
"What a great opportunity I have been given to work with the Cartoon Network on the next season of My Dad's a Pro," said Gonzalez. "I am my son Nikko's biggest fan and I know he is excited to give kids across the country an inside look at his life as the son of an NFL athlete. Cartoon Network is always on at the Gonzalez household and this gives us a great opportunity to share in a project as father and son that involves both football and our family."
Gonzalez, a 10-time NFL Pro Bowl selection, currently holds the NFL records for single season receptions by a tight end, career touchdowns by a tight end, career receptions by a tight end, and reception yards by a tight end. Gonzalez entered the NFL in 1997 when he was drafted to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2009, he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons and subsequently became the 21st player in NFL history with 11,000 receiving yards. In addition to his accolades on the field, Gonzalez continues to make a difference off the field. In 1998, he established the Tony Gonzalez Foundation to serve as a positive force in the lives of individuals in need, no matter their age, financial status, ethnic background, physical abilities or limitations. The foundation continues to benefit such organizations as the Shadow Buddies Foundation and The Boys and Girls Club.
My Dad's A Pro, featuring Tony Gonzalez and his son Nikko, is part of Cartoon Network's ongoing relationship with the NFL. Beginning last fall, and then leading up to the Super Bowl in February, Cartoon Network joined forces with the NFL as the exclusive promotional partner for the NFL Play 60 Super Bowl Contest. Also, as a part of NFL Draft week, Cartoon Network is taking part in this year's NFL Play 60 Youth Football Festival in New York's Central Park April 20 and 21, where Gonzalez is also appearing.
