A Catastrophic Moment. The Devastating Aftermath. Lingering Controversy. Two Generations Later, The Story Of An American Crisis Is Told As Never Before. HISTORY ANNOUNCES JFK: 3 SHOTS THAT CHANGED AMERICA

Oct 9, 2009 - 3:23:15 PM

From Emmy Award winning producers of HISTORY's special 102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA

Two-Part Special Presentation Premieres on HISTORY Sunday, October 11, 9 p.m. and Monday, October 12, 9 p.m. ET/PT

Just hours before his death, President John F. Kennedy appeared before a crowd in Fort Worth, Texas in what would be his final speech, an homage to American freedom. That poignant event, and the sights and sounds of the catastrophic days ahead, were captured on camera by innumerable professionals and amateurs.

Now, a treasure trove of these archival materials, many rarely seen, has been meticulously pieced together to present a gripping, new chronological account of the Kennedy assassination and its aftermath. The cameras do the talking in the narratorless documentary JFK: 3 Shots that Changed America, premiering on Sunday, October 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT (Part 1) and Monday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT (Part 2) on HISTORY.

Comprised exclusively of eyewitness source material, the four-hour film takes cinéma vérité to the next level, immersing viewers in the story of the assassination and its aftermath as though for the first time. The archives were amassed from a variety of sources including personal home movies, Dallas police dispatches, televised interviews, and raw news footage. Nicole Rittenmeyer and Seth Skundrick, producers of HISTORY's presentation 102 Minutes That Changed America, recently honored with three Emmy® Awards including Outstanding Nonfiction Special, culled through thousands of hours of audio and visual footage acquired from a range of different sources in order to create a clear and invaluable historic record of this chapter in history.

Part 1 traces the hours before JFK's assassination on November 22, 1963 through the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald less than 48 hours later. Part 2 chronicles the enduring controversies that emerged as succeeding generations of Americans struggled to make sense of the sudden murder of an unforgettable leader.

JFK: 3 Shots that Changed America anchors HISTORY's "Kennedy Declassified Week," October 11 - 18. Kennedy: 24 Hours Later, premiering on HISTORY on Sunday, October 18 at 9pm, is an insider's look at the chaotic first hours after the assassination, with focus on the transfer of power including a 40-minute time lapse between the death of the president and when Vice President Lyndon Johnson was informed.

Produced for HISTORY by New Animal Productions. Executive Producers: Nicole Rittenmeyer and Seth Skundrick. Executive Producers for HISTORY are David McKillop and Michael Stiller.
