A&E Finishes Best August In Network History
Continuing its ratings success, A&E enjoyed its best August ever among all key demographics supported by double-digit ratings growth among adults 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers. Propelled by the strength of the network's slate of original series, the network is up 18% in adults 25-54 (859,000) and 18-49 (818,000) and up 21% in total viewers (1.7 million) versus August 2010. For the month, A&E ranked #4 in all key demos, including adults 25-54, 18-49 and total viewers among all entertainment cable networks, the network's best August rank ever in all demos.
Summer 2011 was A&E's best summer on record due to the strength of the network's stable of original hit series, especially "Storage Wars," the number 3 show on all of ad-supported cable in the adults 25-54 and 18-49 demos. Premieres of "Storage Wars" have propelled the network to the number 1 cable network of the night for five consecutive weeks and the number 1 network on all of television (broadcast and cable) in the 10pm hour on Wednesday nights among adults 18-49 and 25-54. Since the return of "Storage Wars" on July 20, A&E has placed number 2 among all networks in the hour among total viewers, trailed only by CBS - beating out NBC, FOX and USA.
Other series leading the way this summer include "Beyond Scared Straight," "The First 48," "The Glades," "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," "Intervention," "Hoarders" and "Billy The Exterminator."
A&E is poised for the network's 8th consecutive year of growth, with audience levels in the adults 25-54, 18-49 and total viewer demos all up year-to-date 2011 versus the same time period last year.
