Jessica McCord was not the cool kid in high school and celebrated being an outsider. Despite her antisocial tendencies, she set her eyes upon a high school classmate far outside of her social circle: popular overachiever Alan Bates. Thanks to Jessica's persistence and Alan's attraction to her quirks, sparks flew between the two and several years of joyful marriage followed. Unfortunately, the downfall of their relationship came just as quickly as it began and they made the mutual decision to go their separate ways. In the blink of an eye, however, their once amicable divorce turned sour and the former high school sweethearts found themselves in the midst of a bitter, never-ending custody battle.

After Alan mysteriously vanishes, his barely-recognizable, burned remains are discovered in the trunk of his car. Had a hijacking gone terribly wrong or was this the fiery conclusion of Jessica and Alan's heated custody battle?
