"ABC'S WORLD NEWS WITH CHARLES GIBSON" To Originate From Houston On March 23 & 24

Mar 20, 2009 - 1:53:47 PM

ABC's Charlie Gibson is taking "World News" on the road again this month to see first-hand how the economic crisis is impacting different corners of the country. On March 23 and 24, "World News" will originate from Houston, which has been relatively well-insulated from the economic downturn gripping so much of the U.S. Gibson will look at why the city and Texas overall has been one of the last regions to feel the painful effects of the recession, with many people actually flocking to the state in search of job opportunities.

He will also get an inside look at NASA's Johnson Space Center, which is in the midst of overseeing the Space Shuttle Discovery's latest mission to the International Space Station. What is the future of the space program in light of the country's current economic woes?

Additionally on Tuesday evening, Gibson will interview Apollo astronauts Captain Alan L. Bean, Captain Gene Cernan, Captain James A. Lovell, Jr. and Colonel Buzz Aldrin, part of "An Evening with Texas Legends" benefitting the Texas Children's Cancer Center. The event will celebrate the Apollo Program and the upcoming 40th anniversary of man's landing on the moon.

On Tuesday night, ABC News will broadcast live coverage of President Obama's press conference, beginning at 8:00 p.m., ET. Gibson will anchor this special coverage from Houston. He will be joined by Chief Washington Correspondent and host of "This Week" George Stephanopoulos and Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper.

"World News with Charles Gibson" airs at 6:30 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network and on KTRK-TV in Houston at 5:30 p.m., CT. Jon Banner is the executive producer of the broadcast.
