CNBC AND FORTUNE MAGAZINE PRESENT... THE FASTEST GROWING COMPANIES OF 2009 On Wednesday, August 19th

Aug 11, 2009 - 12:08:21 PM

One-Hour Special Hosted by CNBC Managing Editor Tyler Mathisen & FORTUNE Managing Editor Andy Serwer

While the rest of the world was hit hard by the economic crisis, these companies were booming-big sales, earnings and stock market gains. CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, and FORTUNE go inside the hot profit engines that could make you rich.

On Wednesday, August 19th at 9PM ET & 10PM PT, "CNBC and FORTUNE Magazine Present...Fastest Growing Companies of 2009," co-hosted by CNBC Managing Editor Tyler Mathisen and FORTUNE Managing Editor Andy Serwer.

The one-hour special will feature profiles of five companies that made it onto this year's list of FORTUNE's Fastest Growing Companies, which hits newsstands on Monday, August 17th, including the company that earned the #1 spot. The companies are ranked on revenue, earnings growth and their stock returns over the past three years.

Mathisen and Serwer will discuss the criteria for making the list, look at which sectors of the economy are still booming and go inside the companies that are taking full advantage of their position, posting sizzling growth in a slow-growth world.

The companies profiled include:

Deckers Outdoor Corporation

* Started by UCSB student Don Otto, the company began producing flip-flops in 1973. Deckers Outdoor Corporation eventually acquired Teva sandals, Simple Shoes and the phenomenally hot UGG brand, which has catapulted the company onto FORTUNE's Fastest Growing List. CNBC's Mathisen interviews the company's Chairman, CEO and President Angel Martinez and Zohar Ziv, COO at the Goleta headquarters.

Arena Resources

* An oil and gas exploration company founded in 2000 by Tim Rochford and Stanley McCabe, AR is a Tulsa, OK based company with current operations in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mexico and was #1 on FORTUNE's 2008 list. The program features interviews with Chairman Tim Rochford and CEO Phil Terry who discuss the drilling strategy that has kept the company firmly in the black and high on FORTUNE's list of fast-growers for 3 consecutive years.

Chipotle

* In 1993 Steve Ells opened his first Chipotle in Denver, Colorado and now operates more than 860 restaurants in 34 states. Ells, the company's Chairman and CEO, has focused on building LEED restaurants, and sustainable food supply chain. The company uses an increasing percentage of naturally raised meat, and organic produce. The program will feature an interview with Steve Ells as he tours his San Francisco and New York City restaurants.

BlackRock

* CNBC's Mathisen sits down with the president of one of the most profitable and powerful financial institutions on the planet - BlackRock's Robert Kaptito. The firm recently agreed to acquire Barclays Global Investors, making it the world's largest asset management company with $2.7 TRILLION under management. Despite its size, the company is still run like a family operation by Chairman and CEO Larry Fink and President Robert Kapito.

AND, CNBC's Mathisen tours the headquarters of this year's #1 company-a name virtually every American will know-and speaks with its top executives to find out how the company thrived in this economic crisis and how it aims to stave off competitors.
