MGM Domestic Television To Launch Discovery Channel's Hit Series "CASH CAB" INto U.S. Syndication
Fueled by its break-out success on Discovery Channel, the Emmy award-winning game show CASH CAB is heading to broadcast television. MGM Domestic Television (MGM) announced today that it has acquired the U.S. broadcast syndication rights and will be offering the highly sought after series in Fall 2010.
"CASH CAB is an addictive game show with a built-in fan base and a proven track record, making it an ideal choice for broadcasters," said John Bryan, Executive Vice President, Broadcast Strategy, MGM. "We're very excited to be bringing CASH CAB to U.S. syndication."
"CASH CAB combines the fast-pace of a game show with knowledge and entertainment which are core attributes of Discovery content," said Tom Cosgrove, Chief Operating Officer and EVP of Discovery Channel. "We look forward to teaming with MGM, building awareness for one of our highly popular series and attracting a wider audience for CASH CAB in the syndication marketplace."
The premise of the hit show places comedic host Ben Bailey - a three-time Emmy Award Nominee for Best Game Show Host - behind the wheel of a New York City taxi, where unsuspecting passengers suddenly find themselves on camera in the hot seat being quizzed all the way to their destination. As the meter ticks away, the questions get harder and the cash stakes get higher. But miss three questions, and Ben pulls the CASH CAB over - wherever they are - and kicks the contestants to the curb.
CASH CAB earned two Daytime Emmys® for 'Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show' - beating out both "Jeopardy" and "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" - in 2008 and 2009. The series is produced for Discovery Channel by Lion Television.
