MTV Reveals Artists To Watch In 2012 List - Eleven Selected Artists To Be Showcased Across MTV's Multiple Channels And Screens In 2012

Dec 22, 2011 - 1:26:23 PM

MTV revealed the names of eleven emerging artists selected for its annual 'Artists to Watch' list. The artists selected span multiple genres, including pop, hip-hop, rock, folk and EDM. This year's list will be featured across MTV's multiple channels and screens including MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com as part of a yearlong campaign.

MTV's Artists to Watch in 2012 are Alabama Shakes, A$AP Rocky, Avicii, Lana Del Rey, Dev, Electric Guest, Fun., Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Walk The Moon and Wallpaper.

"This yearlong initiative underscores our commitment to connecting emerging artists with MTV's audience of passionate music fans," said Amy Doyle, executive vice president of music and talent programming strategy. "We know today's music fans are presented with limitless choices and they're looking for guides to help them find new music. We're excited to shine the MTV spotlight on these artists and to introduce them to fans that might not have discovered them yet."

The Artists to Watch in 2012 campaign will span MTV's multiple channels and screens and officially kick off on January 1.  During the first two weeks of the year, the artists will be showcased as part of MTV's weekly on-air franchise PUSH (Play Until Someone Hears), which features music videos, live performances and interviews, and runs interstitially between programming throughout the day. Music videos from the Artists to Watch in 2012 will be showcased as video playlists that will run during MTV's AMTV, MTV2's AMTV2, mtvU and MTV Hits,  as well as  MTV's  10 on Top's "One to Watch" feature. In addition, the first episode of MTV2's 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield debuting on January 6 will focus on these artists. Throughout the year, each artist will also have a PUSH week dedicated to them exclusively.

MTV has been an active supporter of each selected band.  Highlights include Alabama Shakes' performance during O Music Awards 2 and interview on MTV2's 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield; Walk The Moon performing on MTV's monthly live stream concert, Live in NYC and interview with MTV Hive; Aviccii's music videos in regular rotation on MTV, mtvU and MTV Hits; and Dev presenting at the mtvU's 2011 Woodie Awards.

MTV first introduced the Artist to Watch campaign in 2011. The list included Wiz Khalifia, Miguel, Graffiti 6 and Tinie Temphah.
