Safety Goggles Required On Second Season Of DIY Network's PROJECT XTREME

Jan 8, 2009 - 4:57:50 PM

Second Season of Adrenaline Pumping Program Featuring New Host Matt Blashaw Kicks Off

With One-Hour Special Project Xtreme: Disney on Wednesday, January 28 at 10 p.m. ET

Ever wonder how a high-rise is built or how active subway tracks are replaced? How does an arena go from a Coldplay concert one night into an ice rink for a professional hockey team in less than 24 hours? Contractor Matt Blashaw tackles these intense assignments and others all over the United States on the second season of DIY Network's Project Xtreme.  The new season of this popular primetime series kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. ET with an hour-long special entitled Project Xtreme: Disney, where Blashaw helps give a Disney Cruise Line ship a massive overhaul.

In the first five episodes of the second season of Project Xtreme, Blashaw tackles perilous projects alongside the unsung professionals who take on these tough tasks every day. Jaw-dropping undertakings include: Manually inspecting and fixing 87 ft. high roller coasters; cleaning a shark tank big enough for two Great Whites; operating a 500-ton boring machine to work on an underground tunnel; replacing steel and concrete on a bridge; and dangling with steelworkers from beams high above a river to create the world's longest elevated pedestrian walkway. Nothing is too extreme...

Matt Blashaw gets an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look into the world of the popular Disney Cruise Line and sees how they keep the magic alive during their 17-day "dry dock" restoration of the Disney "Magic" ship. From dry docking a ship weighing nearly 85,000 tons to using a pressure washer so powerful it could cut through concrete with ease and painting the hull of the ship, to jack-hammering and resurfacing the Mickey Mouse Pool, to reinstalling giant propellers, thrusters and stabilizers that are as tall as a house, Blashaw unveils the amount of work that goes into keeping the popular vacation destination afloat!

Chicago Condo Construction (Episode 201)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 10 p.m. ET

Matt Blashaw may be a contractor on single family homes, but he's never faced the challenge of erecting a 15-story concrete condominium.  At the construction site of what will soon be "1555 Wabash" in the fast-growing South Loop of Chicago, Blashaw joins the construction crew to do every grueling job in the process - from tying off massive grids consisting of miles of steel rebar and pouring just a little bit of the buildings 13,000 cubic yards of liquid concrete while hanging 15 stories above the streets of Chicago, to trying to hold onto a runaway monster concrete polisher.

Baltimore Subway (Episode 202)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 10 p.m. ET

One hundred feet below the city of Baltimore, Matt Blashaw joins the crew replacing 2,000 feet of train track in the Baltimore subway, while avoiding the dreaded "third rail." All does not go well when the crew tries to slice through one of the old rails. While later, Blashaw tries to avoid burning his skin when he attempts to weld two tracks together using molten steel.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge (Episode 203)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 10 p.m. ET

Matt Blashaw helps repair the concrete pylons of one of the Engineering Wonders of the World - the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Norfolk, Va. As a storm approaches, Blashaw must work underwater, struggling against surging currents.

Kings Dominion (Episode 204)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10 p.m. ET

Matt Blashaw must overcome his fear of heights to help repair the scary thrill rides of Kings Dominion theme park, near Richmond, Va. The biggest job is maintenance work on the track of the Dominator - one of the tallest roller-coaster loops in the world.

Midwest Helicopter (Episode 205)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10 p.m. ET

Matt Blashaw spends the day working in a "flying crane," a helicopter run by Midwest Helicopters of Chicago, which lifts extremely heavy payloads to locations impossible to reach with a conventional crane. He helps delivers three-ton air conditioning units to the obstacle-filled roof of a skyscraper in Downtown Chicago.
