Sherri Shepherd Named New Host Of GSN's 'THE NEWLYWED GAME'

Aug 23, 2010 - 9:14:30 AM

Production Will Move to New York City from Los Angeles

GSN (Game Show Network) announced that comedienne, actress and talk show host Sherri Shepherd will take over as host of its original hit series, THE NEWLYWED GAME, when the show returns for its fourth season this November.  Shepherd will begin taping 65 episodes in September, and the series will move production to New York City from Los Angeles.  Season Four of THE NEWLYWED GAME will premiere on Monday, November 1 at 6:00 P.M. (ET/PT), and air Mondays through Fridays at 6:00 P.M. (ET/PT).

Shepherd is widely known as co-host of the hit talk show THE VIEW, for which she has won a Daytime Emmy Award.  She plays the wife of Tracey Morgan's character in a recurring role on 30 ROCK, and had a role in last year's OscarĀ®-winning film PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL 'PUSH' BY SAPPHIRE.  She has appeared in numerous TV series, including EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, LESS THAN PERFECT and SHERRI.  She is the author of a humorous autobiography, Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break.  Shepherd is also currently shooting a new role in ONE FOR THE MONEY, a feature film from Lionsgate Films starring Katherine Heigl.

Said Shepherd, "I am thrilled to be hosting THE NEWLYWED GAME. This is a show that I've grown up watching, but never dreamed I'd be the host!"

Kelly Goode, GSN's SVP of Programming, added, "Sherri's quick wit and energy will make her a great fit for THE NEWLYWED GAME.  She has a big personality and is outspoken about relationships-plus, she can find the humor in any situation."

THE NEWLYWED GAME is GSN's modern installment of the classic series showcasing three newly married couples of wide-ranging backgrounds who face off in a series of question rounds. During each round, a spouse attempts to guess his or her mate's answer to questions about their relationship, ranging from the first time they met to the details of their love life. At the end of the game, the couple scoring the most points wins exciting prizes.

THE NEWLYWED GAME is produced by Michael Davies and his production company, Embassy Row, which is owned by Sony Pictures Television.  Davies has brought audiences fan-favorite shows such as "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," "Power of 10," and the GSN original "Chain Reaction." Additionally, Sony Pictures Television serves as the worldwide distributor for THE NEWLYWED GAME.
