Space Ghost to Come out of Retirement For Interview with Avatar Star Zoe Saldana

Dec 8, 2009 - 11:08:54 AM

Only a movie this big could bring Adult Swim's Space Ghost out of retirement after five years. Coming together with 20th Century Fox, Adult Swim will feature an interview with legendary host Space Ghost with Zoe Saldana, one of the stars of the upcoming film, to drive awareness for James Cameron's Avatar, the Oscar-winning director's first theatrical release in thirteen years. James Cameron's Avatar premieres in theatres worldwide on Friday, Dec. 18.

Starting tonight, Adult Swim will drive viewers to tune in on Sunday night, Dec. 13 at Midnight to watch Space Ghost's interview with Zoe Saldana, who plays the lead female character "Neytiri." The tune-in messaging and 60-second interview will be sponsored by 20th Century Fox and focus on messaging for the film.

During its time on the Cartoon Network and later Adult Swim airwaves, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, a quirky quasar of comedy, music and talk, featured cape-to-heart talks with Michael Stipe, Carol Channing, Thom Yorke and a galaxy of other guests. The show and its fearless host retired from Adult Swim late night in 2004. The new content developed to promote Avatar will feature George Lowe, the original voice for Space Ghost.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home.   James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic," first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
